JUDGEMENT DAY 2016: Making History Sideways

And finally, they were here. Top drivers from Japan, Middle East, Malaysia and the UK came down to the Philippines to battle it out with our top local drifters for the first ever international drifting competition to come to our country. Judgement Day 2016 is the biggest drifting event to hit the Philippines to date.

The long wait was finally over. I couldn’t believe it was actually happening as I was driving to Clark International Speedway on November 19, 2016. Crazy excited, I didn’t know whether to run or sprint entering the pit walk at CIS. As soon as I made that last turn, gate after gate, one familiar monster car after another. The Philippine team busy working on their cars. Luis Gono’s 240SX, Audel Sison’s S13, John Boban’s Soarer… these are the cars I always see in our local scene. But this time it felt different. Seeing them being prepped for an international race gave me butterflies. You can sense the pressure in the air but in true pinoy fashion, everyone was relaxed but their excitement was palpable.

DIY: Hose Leak Quick Fix

A couple of weeks after I got my car back from overhaul, I noticed that the water in the reservoir seems to go empty after about 4 to 5 hours drive. My heart sunk fearing that something might've gone wrong during the overhauling process. But after a few days of observation, I've never been more happy to see a leak in the upper radiator hose. Just a leak. Whew.

That arrow is where the leak source was.
I came across this quick fix online and with a blessing from my mechanic, I decided to try it myself and see if it would work. And also, because it was embarrassingly easy to do.

Things you'll need:
  • Hose cutter
  • Screwdriver
  • Coolant (for topping up)
Here are the few steps to a leak-free hose...

Fan Girl Moment : Mr. Toni "Half Breeds" Arakaki

Filipino-Japanese Professional Drifter, Mr. Toni "Half Breeds" Arakaki
Source: Half Breeds Facebook Page
  • First Filipino drifter to ever go Pro in Japan
  • First Filipino drifter to ever go Pro in Europe
  • First Filipino to obtain a Drift Muscle license
  • First Filipino to compete at Drift Muscle Super Muscle class
  • First Filipino to obtain a Super Class license at MSC
  • First Filipino to ever obtain a license at King of Asia and King of Europe Pro drift series
           ...to name a few.

A Filipino racer this accomplished should be a household name.

Drift Muscle Philippines 2013 - the event that brought Keiichi Tsuchiya to the Philippines for the first time. A fantastic event. But at the back of my mind, why in the hell would The Drift King come here? The drifting scene here at the time was so raw, his presence felt premature. At the event, I found out the man who made it all possible was Filipino-Japanese drifter, Mr. Toni "Half Breeds" Arakaki. I could not believe we had a Pinoy drifter in Japan, but what's more unbelievable is the fact that it was the first time I have ever heard of him.

The Day I Took A Drift Class

It was May of 2012 when I saw an online coupon for a Drifting Class. I remember freaking out, and doing a triple take of what I was reading. Drifting wasn't big back then so I didn't even think an opportunity to learn it was possible. I couldn't believe it until I read the whole title - Introductory Drifting Class at King's Car Control Clinic. It was organized by none other than mister Car Porn himself, Ian King. I had to be stupid not to get it. I bought that coupon without thinking. Who needs food anyway, right?

I could hear the tires screeching from a mile away. As I was pulling up to the venue, literally screaming at the top of my lungs as I was parking. I walked sheepishly to the registration table, signed my name and sat on a monoblock chair under the tent with my jaw dropped to the floor watching monster cars like Skylines and Silvias pass in front of me as I waited for my turn.

JUDGEMENT DAY - Philippine's First International Drift Event

This is probably the most exciting motorsport news I have heard my entire drift-loving life!

In November 19, 2016, top drifters from Japan and Malaysia are coming to the Philippines for an amazing showdown of the most intense driving skills known to man. Dorifto!

Collab Philippines brings you… JUDGEMENT DAY – the first ever international drifting event in the Philippines!

Assembled by Filipino-Japanese drifter, Toni “Half Breeds”Arakaki, a team of esteemed drivers namely, Daigo Saito (yes.. Daigo Saito), Tan Tat Wei, Hirohide Tanaka and Keiichiro Kadekaru will battle it out with the Philippines’s top drifters in an octane pumping drift competition in Clark International Speedway. The competition will be judged by none other than King of Europe’s Mike Procoreur. Oh and by the way, the drivers won’t be coming alone. They’ll be bringing their badass cars with them. Over 4,000 HP in total. Are you freaking out yet?

Drifting is definitely gaining momentum in the Philippine motorsport scene. While it’s not exactly under the limelight yet, JUDGEMENT DAY will definitely catapult it to center stage. And not only will this help ripen the sport in our country, it would also be a massive leap for our local drivers as well. Before we know it, it’ll be our turn to go overseas and more and more Philippine flags will be waving sideways across the globe.

To Collab Philippines for spearheading this unbelievably awesome event and bringing it to the country,  to Mr. Toni Arakaki who never forgot his roots and incessantly gives his full support in building the local drifting community… On behalf of my fellow pinoy drifting aficionados, I’d just like to say, we freaking love you.
