How awesome is this? The "bug" is back! It doesn't matter what era you're from, if you're a car enthusiast or not, everyone knows what a Volkswagen Beetle is. It is timeless. A definite icon in the automotive industry.
I was so psyched when the best sister in the world, Rina's Rainbow asked me to tag along with her in this event held at the Mind Museum in The Fort, Taguig. She immediately thought of me when she found out it was a car event. God bless her rainbow-colored heart!
The moment the new 2014 Beetle came out, the first thing I noticed was it's sportier look. Somehow it looked slimmer while still keeping the iconic round shape. Like a muscle that got toned. Really sexy.
The new Beetle eyes has those gorgeous led daytime running lights which just grabs your attention. I couldn't stop staring at them. Plus, the headlights are automatically activated. Cool points for that.
It had 17-inch alloy wheels called "Rotor" with 215/55 tires. You will get the 16-inch wheels called "Whirl" with the basic model with 215/60 tires. I like the rims. I'm not sure which one this is. But it's simple 10-spoke "V" design is plain but not too boring. For me it feels old school but with modern kick. Plus, I think it mimics the VW logo, and that makes it even cooler. But who am I kidding, I'd still probably change it with a gold mesh BBS, polished lip.
|I know, worst shot ever. My apologies.|
When my sister and I inspected the trunk space, I was thinking.. "My 15" subwoofer in my Accord trunk would easily fit in there.." and she was thinking, "My baby's stroller would fit in there..." Haha! So good news.. the new Beetle would accommodate the needs of a family person and a car person!
Presenting, the engine. The new Beetle has a 1.2 TSI M/T Basic with a turbocharger and a 1.4 TSI DSG Design with twincharger variants. How freaking awesome is that? Economy and power man. That's what we need now. And I love how you won't expect a turbocharged engine in that bug-shaped body. Check out the specs...
You wanna know how much? Drum roll please... the Beetle 1.2L TSI costs P1.59 million and the Beetle 1.4L TSI twin-turbo gasoline DSG is P1.79 million. Yes, it's expensive. You could get a large Japanese SUV with that price. But hey, it's a Volkswagen Beetle. I kinda don't mind paying that amount for an iconic (turbocharged) car if I had the money.
So... I had such a blast at the Beetle launch! More power to Volkswagen. Thank you for giving us another bug to play with!
Here are some other pictures from the event...
